I often wish I could be transported back to the early 1950′s. Back to the “good ol’ days” when life was simple. Back to a time when families sat down and talked to each other, children played outside and actually enjoyed it, and meals were prepared from scratch. Maybe I have a misconception of what life was like back then, but I just feel like life must have been so much less stressful and just … simple. Dads worked all week, moms took care of the kids, and families went to church on Sundays.
2011 is a far cry from the 1950′s. We now live in the age of technology and microwave ovens. Instead of playing outside, our children have 987 cable TV choices, the internet, video games, and the iPhone. Instead of home cooked meals, we have entire grocery store aisles dedicated to microwaveable food. Moms now make up a large portion of the work force and a large percentage of children are put into daycare and after school programs.
Somewhere along the way we lost sight of the value of simplicity.
The Smets Family is a family that really understands the value of a simple life. Duane and Amy are raising their two beautiful girls with common principles such as respect your parents, love people, love God, and be grateful for everything you have. I have followed Amy’s blog for some time now and have loved reading about her vintage finds, craft ideas for her girls, and just the simple every day happenings of their family. I want my family to be a little more like the Smets Family. In fact, I think the whole world needs to be a little more like the Smets Family. ♥
