Here we are at week two of the 26 Week Challenge already! This week’s topic was “eyes” and I had been tossing around a few ideas for this theme but it wasn’t until yesterday when I knew for sure what I wanted to do. Cade absolutely loves Toy Story. We have watched all three movies over and over and over again. He was Buzz Lightyear for Halloween when he was three years old and Evil Emperor Zurg the following year when he was four. You will also frequently find him leaping off the couch with his arms outstretched yelling “to infinity and beyond!”. Yes, we are indeed a Toy Story household. : ) Cade was SO excited when we told him we were going to take him to see Disney on Ice Toy Story 3 … he was even MORE excited when we told him mom and dad were taking him on a special date just the three of us and that we would be leaving his little brother with Grandma and Grandpa. It isn’t often we get one-on-one time with the kids! Cade loved the show and just had to have this alien hat (that conveniently came with the $12 bag of cotton candy we purchased). As soon as he put it on I knew this was going to be my photo for the theme this week. Who can resist his sweet little face and three alien eyes? : )

A few local photographer friends and I have decided to do a 26 week challenge together this year. Every two weeks for the entire year there will be a challenge word and we have to shoot what that word means to us. This week the word was “new”. The first thing that came to mind is Cade’s new skill he is quickly mastering. Reading!!! Everything has really clicked in his brain over the past month or so and he’s reading up a storm now. We went to the grocery store a few days ago and he held my grocery list in his hand and sounded out every word on the list. I love watching the excitement in his eyes when he realizes what the word is. His nose crinkles up and he gets this huge smile on his face. He’s so proud of himself and I am too. My baby is growing up. I’m slowly coming to terms with this fact. I took this photo of him and his dad last night. They read books together every night. Only now Cade is the one reading the books to his dad instead of the other way around. : )
I fell in love with this session the second I downloaded all of the images. A beautiful family, sweet kids, and gorgeous colors. What’s not to love? And seriously, who says San Diego doesn’t have seasons? The colors on these leaves are awesome! I really enjoyed spending time with the Bloomer Family. They’re on my “people who are genuinely nice and care about others” list. (You didn’t know I had lists did you? *wink). I received a really sweet note from Paula after their session and one of the things it said was this:
“Thank you for giving us so many wonderful shots. Looking at them will help us maintain our cool during the tantrums of today and remember only the good when we look at them 10 years down the road.”
Such a great reminder as a parent. And can I just tell you how much I love it when families “get it”? : ) San Diego Family Photographer | San Diego Child Photographer | San Diego Lifestyle Photographer
My last post got me thinking about all the other sessions I held in the final months of 2011 that never made it to the blog. There were so many awesome families, adorable children, and sweet memories made. Now that we’re in 2012 I thought I would do one last round up and show some of my favorites from my Fall sessions. Looking back at these photos makes me feel very excited for all 2012 has in store. Here’s to a new year!
Before the weather got too cold (ha! that’s funny in San Diego : )) I shot a few final sessions down at the beach. I loved the lighting on both of these sessions and the kids were oh so sweet!
I also had the opportunity to photograph this lovely mama-to-be. Maternity photography is a new found love of mine. : )
Speaking of new babies … I had an awesome time hanging out with these three amazing people. R and S are from Austin, Texas (hook ‘em horns!) and I fell in love with them instantly. Texans know all about hospitality and know how to make you feel right at home. : )
This sweet family should look familiar to you. Mark and Leyla are the owners of an awesome children’s boutique in South Park called So Childish. I have been photographing them for almost three years now and their little girl Presley just keeps getting cuter (those curls just about do me in every time!).
Finally, the Fall months always hold an unimaginable number of mini-sessions. Most of my mini-sessions this year were held at a favorite hidden forest location. I love unique spots that not very many people know about. Here are a few of my favorite images:
seriously adorable …
I was looking through my images from last Fall and came across this session I did with a sweet little girl and her mom. Seeing the images again reminded me how much I love them and I thought I would share a few here on my blog. Mom is due with baby #2 any day now and I can’t wait to photograph their sweet little bundle. Stay tuned for that blog post in the near future. Until then, I hope these images bring your day a little bit of happiness. : )
